Hikkaduwa located in the south coast of Sri Lanka and it is a tiny costal town on the of Sri Lanka. Hikkaduwa is very popular for its beach, surfing, diving, and night life.

The following villages were affected by the 2004 tsunami that struck the pacific ocean: Telwatta, Paraliya (Queen of the Sea rail disaster), Dodanduwa, Kahawa, Rathgama. These locations are on the way from Colombo to Galle on the popular Galle road. It is mainly a tourist resort, in fact there is a great beach with options to surf, snorkel and sunbathe.

Hikkaduwa is disposed around the one main road which runs from Galle to Colombo. On this road there is heavy traffic and pedestrians and tourists are are at danger when crossing.

When the tsunami struck, many of the people living there who had lost everything were given sewing machines in attempt to rebuild businesses. As consequence Hikkaduwa has many of tailors who will make shirts, pants, and shorts for the tourists.

The town is also popular because of a busy nightlife. Hikkaduwa is also very famous with board-surfers. Surfer from all over the world come here to enjoy the waves.
